BBQ Pizza and Shredded BBQ Beef April 17, 2011

Last night I decided to use the last of my Flame Tree barbecue sauce to make a barbecue chicken and beef pizza. It was easy and delicious.
Here is the recipe:

1 Store Bought Pizza Crust
Flame Tree Barbecue Sauce
Enough Shredded Beef Barbecue to cover the crust (recipe to follow)
Roasted Chicken
Italian cheese blend
6-8 Leaves of Basil, torn
1/4 Onion, finely sliced

I started with the store-bought pizza crust and coated it with the Flame Tree Barbecue Sauce from the recipe I posted earlier. Then I added some roasted chicken which we bought a few days earlier and the beef from a previous recipe, which will be posted further down the page.

This is the picture of the pizza with barbecue sauce, chicken and beef:image

Once the meats are on add 1/2 the torn basil and enough cheese to coat. Add the rest of the basil on top of the cheese and bake per instructions on the package.

This is the pizza immediately after removing it from the oven:

Add the thinly sliced onions to the pizza and slice.

Here is the finished product:

The pizza was spicy and tangy and a nice change of pace from your traditional pizza.

Here is the recipe for my easy barbecue shredded beef:

1 Pot Roast
1/2 Bottle of Beer
1 Package Italian Dressing Mix
1 c. Flame Tree Barbecue Sauce

Place roast in slow cooker and add all ingredients, making sure to coat the roast in barbecue sauce.
Cook for 4 hours on high or 7 hours on low. Once roast is done, remove from cooker and shred. Place beef back in cooker to coat in remaining sauce.

I hope you enjoy these easy recipes as much as I did!

Disney’s Flame Tree BBQ Sauce April 4, 2011

Yesterday I decided to make barbecued beef sandwiches for dinner, but instead of grabbing that pre-packaged barbecue sauce I decided I’d try to make my own. Now, this was the first time I tried this; but I found I was inspired because earlier I found a recipe for my favorite barbecue sauce in Disney World. I guess that’s why I ended up loving it so much. It just reminded me of family vacations and sitting down to eat roast chicken by the lake at Animal Kingdom. But I digress…

Going into this I had all the good intentions of recreating the recipe exactly as written but that didn’t quite happen. This recipe is great as is if you like your barbecue sauce a little sweet and not too spicy.

Flame Tree BBQ Sauce

1 c. Ketchup
1/4 c. Rice Vinegar
1/4 c. Water
1/4 c. Packed Light Brown Sugar
2 tbsp. Molasses
1 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp. Chili Powder (I use Mexican Chili Powder)
1 tbsp. Paprika
2 tsp. Onion Powder
1 tsp. Ground Tumeric
1 tsp. Ground Cumin
1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp. Ground Cloves

Combine all ingredients a medium sauce pan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, reduce to low and simmer, stirring frequently for 35 minutes until thickened.

I know it seems like a lot of ingredients but this recipe was so easy it was unbelievable. The only alterations I made was to add cayenne, a splash of apple cider vinegar and some more chili powder. When I first tasted it, the sauce was a little sweet for my palate but after these additions it was perfect.

This is a great sauce for chicken, beef, pork or anything else you might want to put barbecue sauce on.

For me this created a feeling of nostalgia for the times I have had at Disney World with my family and my time working in the parks. Because this was so incredibly easy to make I do believe that I’m going to be making my own barbecue sauce from here on.

I hope you enjoy this recipe!
